- This plant is more diminutive than Cleistesiopsis divaricata in nearly every respect. It is very similar to C. oricamporum, which was recently discovered in the Virginia Coastal Plain. See Comments under that species.

- Dry, acidic soils of oak/heath forests and pine-oak/heath woodlands. Rare in the sw. and wc. mountains.
