- Bogs, fens, moist to wet clearings, meadows, sandhill depressions, riverside prairies, and seeps on rock outcrops; occasionally in drier upland habitats. Frequent in the inner Coastal Plain of s. and c. Virginia, infrequent but widely distributed elsewhere.
