- A small, annual Scleria with the inflorescence appearing as an interrupted spike. In Virginia, it is a classic, Coastal Plain - Mountain disjunct.
- Habitat
- Interdune swales, calcareous and mafic fens, mesic to wet calcareous meadows and prairies, and seeps on limestone and dolostone barrens. Rare in the maritime zone of the outer Coastal Plain and in the mountains (Ridge and Valley and Southern Blue Ridge provinces).
