- Comments
- This species forms dense clumps and usually flowers only when burned or mowed. The indurate, persistent leaf bases on the rhizomes, which help protect the plant during fires, are helpful with identification.
- Habitat
- Collected by Fernald from a sphagnous bog near Dahlia, Greensville County (site now destroyed). Currently known from eight boggy powerline clearings in southeastern Virginia. Rare in the inner s. Coastal Plain, s. of the James River except for one population in York County.
