- Comments
- Most authors differentiate var. acuminatum from our other varieties by its softly pubescent or velvety abaxial leaf surfaces. Based on this circumscription, this taxon is the least likely of the three Virginia varieties to be encountered in the field. However, separation of Dichanthelium acuminatum var. acuminatum from var. fasciculatum can be problematic and a certain percentage of specimens cannot be confidently assigned to either taxon. Map incomplete at present, pending pending further field and herbarium studies.
- Habitat
- Open forests, sandy or rocky woodlands, barrens, flood-scoured river shores and bars, riverside prairies, clearings and fields; occurs in a wide range of xeric to seasonally wet habitats. The distribution and status of the varieties of Dichanthelium acuminatum are incompletely known; var. acuminatum is distributed state-wide, frequent in some areas, and likely infrequent or under-collected in others.
