- Comments
- Les et al. (2015, Molec. Phylogen. Evol. 82: 15–30) found solid molecular evidence that the tetraploid Najas canadensis was derived from hybridization between Najas flexilis and N. guadalupensis, and therefore cannot be lumped with N. flexilis. According to this paper, the Virginia material previously referred to the far northern-ranging N. flexilis is properly assigned to N. canadensis. However, given the number of disjunct northern aquatics that have been found in Virginia, the possible occurrence of N. flexilis here (in addition to N. canadensis) cannot be entirely ruled out, and a review of herbarium material is warranted.
