Comments
Over the past few decades, this Asiatic grass has become aggressively invasive in many natural habitats, often covering floodplains, small-stream bottoms, and some mesic uplands with a nearly monospecific carpet that eliminates most other herbaceous species. Forest roads and trails, as well as small-scale gap and soil disturbances, serve as vectors for its spread. An awned form has been named var. imberbe (Nees) Honda and is known from Greensville and Warren counties, and likely occurs elsewhere.
Habitat
Floodplain forests, swamp hummocks, mesic to dry-mesic upland forests, wet flatwoods, shaded clearings, old fields, and other moist, often shaded, disturbed habitats. Now common in most parts of the state.
Native Status
Introduced
