- Comments
- This is our only Poa with strongly compressed stems. It is commonly considered to have been introduced into our area, but, if so, it has become thoroughly naturalized in many remote, natural habitats. In Virginia, Poa compressa favors distinctly dry or rocky habitats that do not correspond to the moist habitat preferences given in many other treatments.
- Habitat
- Dry, often rocky forests, woodlands, barrens, outcrops, clearings, pastures, fields, roadsides, and waste ground; usually in dry, barren or compacted soils but sometimes in alternately wet-and-dry soils. Frequent to common throughout.

- Introduced
