- This native species of marshes and coastal swales can, on rare occasions, reach heights of 6m with panicles to 0.5 m long. In Virginia population, it is commonly 2.5-3m tall.
- Habitat
- Tidal oligohaline (rarely mesohaline) marshes, interdune swales, maritime swamps, and disturbed maritime and estuarine wetlands. Frequent in the maritime and lower estuarine zones of the Coastal Plain; most numerous in the outer Coastal Plain.
