- New to Virginia: (Fleming (1996)); see Castanea 63:82 (1998). A long-range disjunct, located > 350 km south of the nearest known stations in New York state. A likely introduction, presumably by migratory waterfowl. Its discovery by Townsend in 2006 at False Cape State Park supports this idea.
- Habitat
- Peaty, drawn-down waterfowl impoundments at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park. Rare, outer Coastal Plain; well established at both sites.
