- Although probably occurring statewide, specimens of A. hybridus have often been misidentified as A. retroflexus. Specimens at Virginia herbaria need to be critically examined as preliminary studies have shown that A. retroflexus is much less frequent than previously believed.
Amaranthus retroflexus is an introduced weed throughout the world but is believed to be native to eastern and central North America (see FNA). - Habitat
