- The related but fairly obscure Symphyotrichum firmum (Nees) G.L. Nesom is attributed to Virginia by Flora of the Southeastern U.S. but not FNA. There are several old specimens from western Virginia that are labelled as S. firmum or its synonym Aster lucidulus, but these need re-assessment before we can accept this species as a member of the flora.
- Habitat
- Bogs, fens, seepage swamps, calcareous spring marshes, floodplain forests, stream banks, freshwater tidal marshes, wet meadows, and ditches. Frequent in the mountains and Piedmont; infrequent in the n. and c. Coastal Plain.
