- Although Mosyakin in FNA4 retained this species in Kochia, Flora of Virginia and Flora of the Southeastern U.S. follow molecular work by Kadereit and Freitag (2011, Taxon 60: 51-78) that supports the transfer of annuals in Kochia to Bassia.
- Habitat
- Roadsides and waste ground, particularly along railroad tracks. Infrequent in the mountains and Piedmont; rare in the inner Coastal Plain.
