- The northeasternmost disjunct populations of this primarily south-central U.S. species, occur at the Banister River bluff in Pittsylvania County and near Difficult Creek, Halifax County. Native of the lower Midwest, disjunct eastward at scattered sites in the Atlantic Piedmont from GA to s. VA.
- Habitat
- Rocky woodlands and clearings on mafic and calcareous substrates. Rare, s. Piedmont; known only from one site in Pittsylvania County (on calcareous siltstone) and one in Halifax County (on mafic rocks).
