- Bogs, seeps, seepage swamps, depression ponds and alluvial swamp hummocks, usually growing in sphagnum or other mosses, often under shrubs. Infrequent and local in the Coastal Plain; rare in the Piedmont and disjunct to a Shenandoah Valley sinkhole pond in Augusta County and a bog in Rockingham County. The disjunct Augusta Co. population, found in 1995, contained hundreds of unusually large plants twining on the stems of Carex barrattii in a marsh-like sinkhole pond.
