- Endemic to a four-county area of western Virginia, and apparently found only on sites underlain by a single geologic substrate, the Elbrook Formation. This formation consists primarily of dolomitic substrates but contains minor inclusions of limestone, shale, and siltstone.
- Habitat
- Dry, open rocky, woodlands and barrens, less frequently occupying somewhat more mesic, wooded bluffs, ledges, road banks, and ravines. Rare in four sc. mountain counties: Botetourt, Montgomery, Roanoke, and Rockbridge.
