- Mid-Atlantic populations of this species in PA, MD, WVA, and VA are significantly disjunct from the main Midwestern range.
- Habitat
- Mostly in rich, well-drained alluvial forests, especially on sandy or silty, frequently flooded levees and along the major rivers; occasionally in disturbed, nutrient-rich upland forests in the mountains. Infrequent to locally common in the Piedmont and nw. mountains; apparently absent from wc. and sw. Virginia.
