- Comments
- The former Heuchera villosa var. macrorhiza (Small) Rosend., Butters, & Lakela is now regarded as a species that may be more closely related to H. arkansana. Flora of the Southeastern U.S. says it is "generally sharply distinct" from H. villosa, both morphologically and ecologically. Its known distribution also comes close to far southwest Virginia and it should be sought in calcareous habitats in the Cumberlands.
- Habitat
- Rocky forests, boulder fields, and outcrop crevices; not particular about rock type, occupying a wide range of sedimentary rocks, including limestone, shale, siltstone, and various sandstones, as well as both mafic and felsic igneous and metamorphic rocks. Common in the mountains of sw. Virginia, becoming less common northward to Rockingham County; infrequent to rare in the inner s. Piedmont.

- Native
