- Not seen since 1940's, presumed extirpated and/or extinct. Collected by Fernald & Long at several sites on Chickahominy River in Charles City and New Kent counties. Also collected historically along the tidal Potomac River in s. Fairfax Co.
This very rare species may be better treated as a member of the genus Hemianthus, but needs further study. See Keener (2019) in FNA17 and Flora of the Southeastern U.S. for details. - Habitat
- Sandy, gravelly, or muddy, freshwater intertidal shores. Possibly extinct; historically collected along freshwater intertidal sections of the Potomac and Chickahominy rivers in the n. Coastal Plain (and in similar habitats n. to New York).
