- Our interpretation of results of two 20-year old molecular studies of Alnus is that relationships between traditional segregates of the Alnus incana complex are not particularly clear and could benefit from additional study with a larger group of samples.
- Habitat
- Stream banks and forested seeps and seepage swamps. Rare at higher elevations of the Northern Blue Ridge (Augusta, Madison, Nelson, and Page counties).
