Comments
Black Locust is generally considered native to the Appalachian region. Owing to the eastward extension of montane-like habitats and Appalachian flora in the Piedmont, it is not now possible to map putative native and introduced populations separately.
Habitat
Mesic to dry secondary forests, old fields, fencerows, and around old homesites. Common in the mountains and inner Piedmont, where definitely native; less so in the outer Piedmont and Coastal Plain, where no doubt partly or entirely naturalized through postsettlement spread.
Native Status
Native
