- A Southern Appalachian endemic, in the past sometimes lumped under Cardamine clematitis. Two varieties are often recognized; most, if not all, of our material is var. flagellifera. Var. hugeri (Small) Rollins) is questionably attributed to Virginia.
- Habitat
- Rocky mesic forests, limestone talus, stream banks, and rocky seepages along the New River. Rare in sw. Ridge and Valley; known only from Giles, Grayson, and Pulaski counties.
