Comments
The frequently cultivated violet was first documented from a 1943 specimen from Henrico Co. with no locality or habitat details. In 1975, it was collected along a railroad in Edinburg (Shenandoah Co.) in 1975 by Ted Bradley (specimen at GMUF), from a population of about a dozen plants. In recent years, it has been collected as a weed in three additional localities. As most experts consider it a cultivar that does not maintain itself in nature, this species is presumably an ephemeral escape or waif.
