- This species is very similar to Vitis vulpina, and cannot always be reliably separated on the basis of foliar characteristics. The narrow, nodal diaphrams are a critical diagnostic character.
- Habitat
- Floodplain forests, alluvial swamps, riverbanks, sand and gravel bar woodlands, riverside prairies, upland forests and clearings adjacent to rivers. Rather infrequent but widely distributed throughout; mostly along large streams and rivers, locally common in some watersheds.
