Comments
Found in 1993 by Byron Carmean occupying a large area of an old landfill. Also found within the last decade in North Carolina, where it is already a "noxious weed" in several suburban areas. Considered invasive in Texas.

Lu et al. (2013, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol. 68: 502-515) showed that Cayratia, as traditionally circumscribed, is paraphyletic and that our species is in a clade more closely aligned with the genus Tetrastigma than with Cayratia s.s. It was thus separated in the genus Causonis.
Habitat
Disturbed ground at old landfill. Currently known only from the City of Chesapeake.
Native Status
Introduced
