 - Long known from relatively nearby in West Virginia, Hypericum ellipticum was not found in Virginia until 2010 on Back Creek, west of Lantz Mountain by Irvine Wilson and Steve Roble.

 - High-elevation stream banks and wet meadows with abundant seepage; habitats formerly grazed by livestock. Rare, mountains; recently discovered at a site on Allegheny Mountain in w. Highland County.
