- Comments
- The current map is incomplete pending a thorough study of Virginia herbarium material. Ssp. rhizomata differs from the far more common ssp. anceps by its long-rhizomatous, clonal habitat, somewhat smaller spikelets, and usually more pubescent sheaths and foliage. Infraspecific taxa of C. anceps have rarely been recognized in Virginia floristic studies, and this ssp. may be overlooked and under-recognized in sandy parts of the s. and c. Coastal Plain.
- Habitat
- Maritime forests, sandy woodlands, clearings, and roadsides. This variety is known to occur in the se. and c. Coastal Plain, but its distribution and status there are poorly known.
- Native Status
- Native
