This species and Bothriochloa torreyana appear to be spreading steadily, especially along the I-81 corridor where they are conspicuous during the late summer and fall flowering and fruiting season.

Vars. ischaemum and songarica, based on minor differences of pubescence, are lumped by FNA.
Habitat
Highway medians and adjacent grassy areas where occasionally mowed. Locally common, sw. mountains; also documented in the City of Petersburg.
