- A common, often "weedy" moss of moist, exposed soil in disturbed habitats such as fields, paths, roadbanks, clearings, lawns, and waste ground. It can also be found in more natural habitats, especially on rock outcrops and ledges. Distributed state-wide and will no doubt be found in every county.
