- Apparently, C. divaricata var. divaricata often co-occurs with var. scabra. Most Virginia specimens lack varietal determinations and so are mapped here. They may represent var. divaricata or var. scabra, or both! See map for C. divaricata var. scabra.

- Hicks gives the habitat as "Soil, rock outcrops, and seepage areas." This species tends to occur in drier habitats than other members of the genus, according to the literature.
