- Many older specimens that predate Schuster's recognition of F. eboracensis ssp. virginica (= F. virginica Lehm.) may represent that taxon. Although F. eboracensis doubtlessly occurs in every county, some vouchers used for this mapping may represent F. eboracensis ssp. virginica instead.
- Habitat
- On tree bark in a wide variety of low- to high-elevation forests; hosts include oaks, maples, ashes, sweetgum, tuliptree, American elm, yellow birch, hackberry, pawpaw, and American mountain-ash. Distributed state-wide.
