- Sometimes confused (especially before flowering) with Microstegium vimineum and Oplismenus undulatifolius. Arthraxon hispidus var. hispidus has distinctly cordate-clasping leaves, which M. vimineum lacks. The leaves of O. undulatifolius are also cordate-clasping but are undulate.
- Habitat
- Damp to moist fields, roadsides, ditches, disturbed floodplains, and other low, disturbed habitats; can be invasive in natural, open wetlands such as fens and seeps; shade-intolerant. Common throughout at low elevations.
