- This liverwort is a Southern Appalachian endemic.
- Habitat
- On hardwood bark; most collections are from mesic sites such as coves and ravines, but a few are from drier habitats. Apparently scattered and infrequent (or under-collected) in the southern half of the mountains (Biodiversity occurrence data published by NY, SIU, TENN.
