- In the mountains and Piedmont, this liverwort grows on wet cliffs and outcrops with periodic seepage, and on rocks (often submerged) in streams and springs; the habitat at recently discovered Coastal Plain locations is not known. Collections are widely scattered across the mountains and Piedmont, and limited to two sites in the Coastal Plain.
