- Native of Midwestern prairies and barrens, notably disjunct to scattered Piedmont sites in NJ, PA, MD, VA, and SC.
- Habitat
- Clearings and old fields on soils weathered from diabase. Rare in the Piedmont; known only from the Culpeper Basin of Fairfax and Prince William counties. Not recently seen.
