- Virginia and Kentucky are at the northern edge of the species' southeastern U. S. distribution. It is a member of the group of species with vicariant distributions in eastern Asia.
- Habitat
- FNA gives the habitat as: "Always on somewhat shaded humid rock surfaces, especially sandstones, conglomerate, and schist; moderate elevations (900-1000 m)". First found on a moist sandstone boulder along upper Bad Creek, Pine Mtn (Wise Co.). Two other occurrences are found on shaded rock outcrops in gorges of Roaring Branch (Wise Co.) and Little Stony Creek (Scott Co.)
