Comments
This frequently cultivated fern has been documented as an established escape in a number of Arlington and Fairfax county localities, as well as in James River Park in the City of Richmond. It is also reported to be naturalizing in suburban woodlands of North Carolina, Alabama, and Arkansas (Kartesz 2015, Flora of the Souteastern U.S.).
Habitat
Urban forests and streambanks in northern Virginia and the City of Richmond; sparingly but increasingly escaped from cultivation. It remains to be seen whether this fern will become established in more remote, non-urban settings of the state.
