- Map currently incomplete; see Comments under the species-level map of Waldsteinia fragarioides. Subspecies doniana has a southern distribution (GA and AL north to KY and VA), and appears to reach a northern range limit in the southwestern mountains and southern Piedmont in Virginia.
- Habitat
- Mesic to dry, acidic upland forests, rocky woodlands, bluffs, and stream banks. Status somewhat uncertain but apparently infrequent to perhaps locally frequent in the southern third of the Piedmont and mountains. In this area, specimens of equivocal or intermediate characters may also be encountered.
