Comments
This globally uncommon (G3) species has a disjunct range on the Coastal Plain, occurring in most states from Nova Scotia to Maryland, then well south in South Carolina and Georgia. The recently documented Virginia population thus lies in the gap. Although the habitat is generally consistent with that of populations elsewhere, the anthropogenic origin of the Virginia site (a reservoir), as well as the species' rarity in most other states and the fact that it is frequently cultivated, cast some doubt on the nativity of the population. Until additional inventory and investigation into the site are done, we are mapping it as a species of "uncertain" provenance.
Habitat
Drawn-down shore of Little Creek Reservoir in James City County. Rare, central Coastal Plain.
Native Status
