- Our only known population occurs on exposed granitic outcrops at about 3200 ft elevation on Millers Head in Shenandoah National Park. This population is significantly disjunct from the species' main range to the north (it is also disjunct in Maryland). Although locally abundant in large colonial mats, the population has not flowered or fruited in recent years and appears somewhat stressed.

- Exposed, high-elevation granitic outcrops. Rare, n. mountains; known only from Millers Head, Shenandoah National Park, Page County (Northern Blue Ridge).
