- Comments
- The central Blue Ridge records (Crabtree Falls, Nelson Co.; Blue Ridge Parkway, Rockbridge Co.; and Peaks of Otter, Bedford Co.) are significantly disjunct from this species main Southern Appalachian range. We have mapped them since the habitats and populations appear natural. However, this species has long been available in the nursery trade, and the possibility that these populations spread from plantings or escapes cannot be entirely ruled out.
- Habitat
- Cove forests, bluffs, and stream banks; occurs on soils weathered from sandstone, limestone, and granitic rocks. Rare in mountains of southwest Virginia and the central Blue Ridge.
- Native Status
- Native
