- Comments
- Few plants in our flora have had as many generic, species, and infraspecific names. However, Flora of North America, Flora of the Southeastern U.S. and Flora of Virginia have all settled on the new genus and subspecies used here. This taxon is part of an autopolyploid complex, and further studies may yet upend the current status quo.
- Habitat
- Montane fields, roadsides, burned areas, grassy balds, and shrub bald openings. Infrequent in the mountains; rare in the n. Piedmont foothills.
