- Habitat
- "Among roots" at Potomac Run, Alexandria, Va., on bluffs of the Potomac River, July 8, 1884, coll. by William Palmer (American Fern Journal, 1939). Massey (1961) lists this species, probably correctly, as occurring in Arlington County. First, the Potomac frontage in Alexandria is entirely in the Coastal Plain and has no bluffs; second, the biggest bluffs along the Potomac in the D.C. area are just above and for several miles below Chain Bridge in Arlington. Confounding matters, there is no "Potomac Run" in either jurisdiction.
