- Comments
- This species' habitat in Virginia is poorly known because it was previously confused and lumped with Carex brevior. Subsequently, C. molestiformis was split out, further complicating matters.
- Habitat
- In wet to dry, often calcareous soils of open forests, fens, fields, roadsides, and alluvial bottomlands. Apparently rare in the mountains; known from six counties in the Ridge and Valley province, one county in the Blue Ridge, and Fairfax County in the n. Piedmont. The Madison County plants were initially identified as C. bebbii but later determined to be a form of C. molesta with congested inflorescences.
