- Carex blanda is probably the most common member of Carex section Laxiflorae in Virginia, and occupies a wide range of habitats, soils, and moisture conditions. It is also morphologically variable in overall robustness, leaf width, and length of staminate spike peduncles. Slender forms appear to grade into the closely related Carex gracilescens, and need further study.
- Habitat
- Well-drained floodplain forests, alluvial and seepage-swamp hummocks, mesic to dry-mesic (occasionally dry) upland forests, clearings, meadows, old fields, and shaded lawns; most numerous on moderately to strongly base-rich soils. Common in the mountains and Piedmont; frequent in the Coastal Plain.
