 - Comments
 - The name Cenchrus spinifex has priority over Cenchrus incertus, IF it applies to our species. Ward (2010, Phytologia 92: 442-451) argued that the application was very uncertain, but Verloove and Sachex-Gullon (2012, Willdenowia 42(1): 67-75) disagreed. Following examination of the holotype by two taxonomists, including Wipff (one of the FNA authors), the taxonomic consensus now seems to be that "spinifex" is the correct name.
 - Habitat
 - Sandy fields, roadsides, sandhill clearings, lawns, and seasonally exposed, riverside sand bars. Infrequent but sometimes locally numerous in the s. and c. Coastal Plain; also documented from several counties in central and western Virginia.
