This tropical grass is a noxious invasive weed in the Gulf Coast states from TX to FLA, and has also been found in SC and TN. It is particularly problematic because it invades fire-maintained Coastal Plain habitats such as longleaf pine flatwoods.
Collected by Robert Wright in 1994 and 1997 as an escape from an ornamental planting in York County; the plants had spread from the edge of a parking lot into an adjacent powerline clearing. The current status of the population is not known.
