- The relationship of Eupatorium linearifolium to E. glaucescens Ell. is unclear. FNA synonymized E. glaucescens under E. linearifolium, but Weakley's Flora of the Southeastern United States considers them distinct and attributes both to Virginia. The Flora of Virginia generally follows Weakley but attributes only E. linearifolium to Virginia. Further study - and clarity - is needed.

- Sandhill woodlands, sandy or peaty clearings. Rare, s. Coastal Plain; known historically from Suffolk City and Southampton County.
