- Kirschner et al. (2007, Preslia 79: 323–365) examined the nomenclatural history of this species and concluded that Spergularia marina has priority over Spergularia salina. Cronquist considered this species introduced to North America, but Fernald, FNA, and others consider it native.
- Habitat
- Maritime beaches, overwash flats, and salt pannes. Locally frequent in the outer Coastal Plain maritime zone.
