- Comments
- FNA attributes both ssp. ramosissimum and ssp. prolificum (Small) Costea & Tardif of a broadly defined Polygonum ramossisimum to Virginia; however, the authors acknowledge that further research is necessary to understand the infraspecific variability of this species. Most Virginia specimens have been labeled as var. prolificum Small. (or P. prolificum), but we have chosen to map only the broadly circumscribed species until we better understand what we have in Virginia, as well as the relationship between the two segregates. Flora of the Southeastern U.S. doesn't give a reason for treating these at species rank.
- Habitat
- Overwash flats, breached dunes, borders of salt marshes, and disturbed sandy maritime habitats. Infrequent to rare in the Coastal Plain.

- Native
